About Us

Tony and Nicky Vanderwal moved from Holland to Langley, BC in 1951 and began milking six cows on a small acreage. In 1960, Tony bought his first purebred cows and Cedarwal was born.  In 1975, the farm moved from Langley to our current location in Abbotsford farming 180 acres and milking 120 cows.

Throughout the following years their three oldest sons took over management on the farm. John and his family (now Rockledge Holsteins) moved to Enderby in 2005.  Consistently growing in number, Cedarwal acquired elite genetics from family lines such as Glen Drummond Splendor, Braedale Gypsy Grand, and Lylehaven Lila Z.  Dave coordinated the dairy operations, and Rich (DVM) coordinated an extensive embryo transfer program helping to improve genetics within the herd, as well as bring in elite genetics and cow families from throughout North America.

In 2008, Cedarwal purchased an additional dairy operation and began to transition it into organic status.  CedarValley Farms is now organic certified farming 150 acres and milking 250 cows.  Rich and Dave run the farms with Dave’s children managing CedarValley and Rich’s children managing Cedarwal operations.

Today, Cedarwal is farming 350 acres and milking 400 cows.  Cedarwal continues to maintain an extensive embryo transfer program as well as IVF program. Embryo export is a large part of the business, with hundreds of embryos exported annually.
